My recommended grow items
I’m a big fan of saving cash. But I also like to tinker. I don’t mind paying for quality where it counts though.
I will be adding to this list and over time, categorize them.
I like to start cheap and upgrade as I can afford to. However if you can afford the higher quality item, almost always get that. It’s better to buy something once.
I started growing again in 2017 with a 4x4x6.5 Tent, 400W HID light, wing reflector, carbon filter, inline fan, speed controller, and timer. Piece by piece I upgrade what is necessary, and what I can afford.
Some of the products I am going to recommend will be cheap. However, I will also try to recommend an “Optimal”. Using these links also make me a bit of money, but cost you nothing. Some links can even save you money.
If you order from Indoor Growing Canada, use my coupon code “CANNANADIAN” for 5% off. They pay me what you save as well. To date, they have not paid me a dime.

Testing Equipment
Blue Lab pH pen – You absolutely need a way to test pH of your feed water. Most problems new growers face are pH related showing up as deficiencies.
Do NOT buy the cheap pH pens on Amazon. You’re better off getting pH strips if you can’t afford a Blue Lab or Hanna pH pen. Pens are great for when you need to make lots of tests. Especially when adjusting pH. But you should always test these against an analog test to confirm calibration before use though. Keep good care of these, and they will last a while.
Calibration solution – for either brand that you use you NEED calibration solution for your pH pen. The manual says calibrate monthly. I suggest every week or two. I use pH 7 and pH 4 with my Blue Lab pH pens. Buying these off Amazon is expensive so I can’t provide any useful Amazon links right now. But if you order off of Indoor Growing Canada, use my coupon code “CANNANADIAN” for 5% off.
Analog pH test kit – A liquid drop kit in the proper pH range for cannabis plants. I have a bottle of this to test my pen against regularly.
pH Test Strips – Cheap and fast way to test pH. We work in the ranges of 5.0-7.0 in cannabis. How accurate these are counts a great deal. General pool and spa strips are not very accurate. If you cant afford a quality pH pen, then use these at the very least.
Analog Soil pH test kit – Most of the pH levels we speak of are the pH of fluid levels going in, and run-off pH levels of fluid going out. But ultimately it is soil pH that matters. This is an analog soil pH test kit that is very useful to have if used correctly.
TDS/EC Meter – You can buy the cheap one here. With EC you can calculate your PPM using whatever scale you wish. EC never changes, but TDS and PPM can be derived from many calculations. Using EC and the proper calculation from your nutrient manufacturer will give you better information to grow with.
Bluelab Truncheon – Pretty much the de facto EC meter in the industry. If you got cash to spare, this is one serious instrument. They take a shit-kicking and keep on ticking.
