Cannanadian Canna Oil Recipe

Equipment:

Ingredients:

  • 2 Oz of Bud. Larf/Popcorn/Smalls. Sugar trim will do. Shake will make WEAK oil. Avoid using shake.
  • Coconut Oil
  • 2 tbsp Guar Gum (First choice), OR soy/sunflower lecithin granules (Bulk Barm/GNC/Health Food Store)

Process:

  • Take bud and coarse chop it by hand.
  • Glove and scissor hash goes back into the pile.
  • Cover a cookie sheet or 3 with parchment paper and spread the bud evenly over sheets.
  • Cover with aluminum foil but let it breathe with a bunch of fork holes.

GENERAL DECARB TIMES
220°F for 30-60 mins
250°F for 20-40 mins
You can play around in those ranges. But decarbing is part of the art of medibles.

Decarb times are something you really need to watch and feel for. This is where different ovens, bud density, moisture all come into play. I have yet to see one single method or time work for all occasions.
Decarbed flower is generally darker and that fresh smell goes away. We don’t need it fully decarbed for this specific case because the slow cooker we use to infuse the oil heats it up a bit longer.
The longer you cook it the more sedative it gets. So if you’re making knockout medicine for cancer patients, maybe do a 7-hour long coo

  • Pre melt your coconut oil and do NOT add the decarbed buds to oil.
  • Set slow cooker to low
  • Put decarbed flower in slow cooker as well as scrape off the kief on the bottom of the parchment paper.
  • slowly add melted coconut oil while mixing
  • Put just enough oil to almost fully cover the cannabis… and just a little bit less even then. You want a bunch of the flower, like 1/4” or so, poking up. You can add more oil later.
  • Stir well
  • Soon the flower will absorb the oil. You can add more oil if needed, but do NOT fully cover the flower.

IMPORTANT! You don’t want so much oil flower bits are floating around. I still have some barely poking up out of the oil through the process. Here is the trick folks. You want your oil as potent as possible. This means you want as LITTLE oil as possible in the flower.

  • Let sit for 4-6 hours. Longer for more sedation. I wouldn’t go over 10 hours as an extreme.
  • Stir it every so often. The more you stir the greener it gets which isn’t really a good thing. You still want to massage the flower a bit to encourage the THC to migrate out of the flower and into the oil. So find a happy place in the bud smashing dept.
  • Let it cool enough where the next part isn’t going to hurt like hell.
  • Strain through cheesecloth.
  • Tie up the ball of flower in the cheesecloth with a quick knot, lay stick/thick wooden spoon over knot, tie another knot and wring out the ball by turning the spoon while someone with thick nitrile gloves holds the hot ball. Do it like a tourniquet. The more you squeeze the more you get. But also, the more green shit you get.
  • Stir your hot oil.
  • Slowly add 1-2 Tablespoons on Guar Gum OR Soy/Sunflower Lecithin through a screen/strainer to avoid clumping and mix well.
  • Put canna oil in the fridge until outside edges of bowl solidify as well as a skin on the top.
  • Remove from the fridge with the center still liquid, scrape the sides with a spatula or spoon and mix with blender or hand blender, scraping sides.
  • Put canna oil back in fridge to solidify a bit more.
  • Repeat the mixing process until canna oil is a uniform buttery color.
  • Cool where the oil is not melting but you can scoop it up still.
  • Pre-measure 1tbsp globs of canna oil and put on parchment paper and put in the fridge or freezer for later use.
  • Or put canna oil in the fridge to store it.

Use in Cooking:

1 Tbsp/15ml to 300-400grams of melted
Chocolate, in brownie or cookie recipes for a moderate dose.

Higher dose == more weed taste

Basically 1-2tbsp in lots of recipes to dose it.

Other Notes:

You can use MCT oil or Butter instead of Coconut oil. I find MCT seems to have a hard time staying in candies and gummies without a boat load of guar gum or lecithin. However, MCT oil has the potential to hold much more cannabinoids.
Butter you will want to clarify first. Use unsalted butter.

You can taste lecithin more than guar gum. So I use guar gum these days. The reason we use guar gum or lecithin is that they are emulsifiers and bind the oils to baking ingredients. If you don’t use these, the oil separates easily from the edibles you cook.
